As we enter into a New Year, it’s a natural time to pause and think about how your business has performed over the past year.

For many, some things will have gone better than expected. Perhaps a new income stream grew quickly, or a customer relationship became more valuable than you imagined. At the same time, rising costs, recruitment challenges or changing customer needs may have made other areas more difficult.

The wider economy has also been anything but straightforward. While inflation has eased slightly in recent months, higher wages and skills shortages continue to affect businesses across many sectors.

Beyond the numbers, you may also be thinking about how well your business supported your wider ambitions. Did it grow in the way you hoped? Did it give you the freedom, stability or flexibility to take advantage of new opportunities? These questions often highlight where your business worked well for you and where it may have held you back.

Plan ahead!

The New Year period can be a good moment to step back and think about what you want from 2026.

Looking back over the last 12 months, were there particular products, services or clients that really drove growth? Where did you feel the most pressure. From increasing costs, staffing challenges or shifting customer expectations? These insights can be very helpful when setting priorities for the year ahead.

Strengthening your resilience

Economic uncertainty and day-to-day pressures are likely to remain part of business life in 2026. But many businesses have already shown real resilience — whether by managing costs, keeping customers loyal or responding quickly to new opportunities. Identifying these strengths gives you something solid to build on.

Setting your sights on 2026

Your goals for the year ahead may involve growth; perhaps expanding into new markets, recruiting more staff, or investing in technology to improve efficiency. Alternatively, you might decide to consolidate what you’ve achieved in 2025, focusing on the areas that delivered the strongest returns and running a leaner, more streamlined operation.

Whatever your plans were, we hope you enjoyed some well-earned rest over the festive period. It’s been a demanding year for many business owners, and time off is truly deserved.

We look forward to working with you in this year, helping you build on what you’ve achieved and supporting you as the next chapter of your business unfolds!
